At the moment, we're using the Boomi Integratio Platform - really easy to set up and use. I can build a set of profiles and an EDI process in a couple of hours. It has really reduced the implementation times for our Principal partners.

I am with ALLiGACOM EDI, it can be outsourced or web-based.

We integrate our EDI through ERPs (SAP, Microsoft, SAGE ect) and also offer a webportal for SMBs new to EDI.

Do any of you have experience with Prophet 21, Distribution One (not to be confused with Navigator), and Agility (DMSI) for EDI?

I am with ALLiGACOM EDI and looking for more information about how these ERPs do EDI.

Thanks in advance!

The vast majority is done through TrustedLink Iseries into our MRP system automatically. The TLI and TLW maps are written by an outside service. We have one customer who will not move over to TLI, so that customer remains on TrustedLink Windows for three of our divisions. We have some customers who use websites, but I try my best to get them to send EDI instead. We have some customers who email or fax their requirements, I try to get them to use EDI. Once I upgrade our TLI, I want to start translating XML and CSV methods into TLI.

Some customers do not seem to realize how expensive garnering requirements from websites, email, or fax is for the supplier. EDI costs, but I think it is cheaper and more accurate than hand-entry.

Anyone using Sonera/Illicom/Generix TradeXpress? I'd like to hear your experiences with it.

A software from ICC - now Easylink.
You don't have to map, they do it for you. You buy packages of 5 maps (meaning: 5 trading partners, no matter how many documents you need to set up). Map upgrades are free.

It's a good solution when the number of TP is relatively small (typically <10 for this business)

Hi

Just a little introduction from me:

I am a support engineer for an EDI/B2B and PIM/GDS company in the Netherlands and as such do not do EDI myself but support our clients in doing so. My main focus is on Inovis TrustedLink for iSeries and their BizManager suite.

I've been using Edisoft Merchant on a PC in several flavors for past 8 years. Great little program for the cost. I've had some experience with both outsourced EDI and web-based EDI, and my vote is, if you have more than 5 trading partners, best to handle in-house.
Outsourced EDI was bad for two reasons:
1. Fast turnaround could be costly, and if there was an issue with labels tough to correct quickly (for example all our 4,000 UCC labels on one shipment to 7 dc's arrived with address of just the first DC, and labels came in the afternoon before the shipment so we basically had to beg forgiveness from retailer and pay extra for their consolidator to separate.
2. Responding to compliance chargebacks became a nightmare as it was fingerpointing between retailer and the outsourced company. Worse, the company dragged feet sending us the raw data, which contained other errors for which fortunately we were not charged.
Web-based provider wasn't too bad but website could be slow or unresponsive some days and for time-critical ASN's...
In-House may involve costs, especially initially, and for a devoted employee. But to be honest, you need a competent coordinator just to deal with an outsourced company so might as well go whole hog and bring in house. Even in slow periods, such a person adds value with other IT or sales report projects.
Just my two peso's...

I work for a service provider, focusing on the Air Transport Industry. We had a custom EDI Clesring House developed for us 15 years ago which is still runing, but, soon will be replaced by WebSphere Partner Gateway and WebSphere Message Broker WebSphere Transformation Extender on the backend. If there are any other WPG users out there please let me know.
We also provide a conversion service for SPEC2000 to/from X12.

Cheers/Jon

We used to run everything in house but this became expensive and time consuming. Now we use an outsourced SaaS based solution, which is based on fixed price mapping (immaterial of the complexity), unlimited document volumes (no volume related charges) and a guaranteed turnaround time of 15 days per relationship. The only downside is we find trading partners can't respond quickly enough, which I guess is a nice problem to have! If anyone is interested, the company is called Perceptant (http://www.perceptant.com)

Why don't you outsource it??? It's a much simpler process and less work on your end-- all you would have to do is coordinate on your end whereas we do all the communication translations, etc.. we are a full-service outsourcing edi provider.
